Swagbucks Announces Discount Gift Card Changes; No More $5 Amazon Card for 450 Points

If you aren’t on Swagbucks, what are you waiting for?

My referral link gets you started with this website, which lets you redeem points for gift cards. You earn the points by searching the web, taking polls and participating in special offers.

I’ve been with Swagbucks since 2011, earning gift cards every month. Some months it’s $5. Other months it’s $50. You can check out my REWARDS TRACKER on either the side or bottom of this website for updates.

Now, the news. Ever since I joined Swagbucks, they’ve offered $5 gift cards for Amazon.com for 450 points. That’s a discount. Usually a $5 gift card is 500 points. When I logged in today, I noticed that the 450 point Amazon.com cards are gone. Now, I can confirm that they’re GONE FOREVER.

On its blog, Swagbucks announced the change. But it’s not all bad news. In fact, there is very good news.

Here are the changes:

1. You can now redeem one $25 gift card per month for 2,200 points, a 300 point discount. It can be used for any brand except PayPal.

2. There is a new 300 point Amazon.com gift card for $3.

3. The 450 point Amazon.com gift card will now require 500 points.

4. The limit of 5 redemptions per month for Amazon.com gift cards will be lifted.

At first, I was bummed about the 450 point Amazon.com gift cards going away. Now, I’m OK with it.

Let’s do the math:

5 of the 450 point Amazon.com gift cards ($25 value) required 2,250 points, but the new $25 option requires only 2,200 points.

In addition, you’re no longer limited to Amazon.com to take advantage of the discount. Now, you can redeem the 2,200 point card (worth $25) at many other places, including CVS, Target and Walmart.

Finally, the $3 Amazon.com card option. This is great for people who are new to Swagbucks because the rewards can be slow to add up from the start. My advice is to download the Swagbucks app so you can earn on the go!

Let me know on Facebook and Twitter how you feel about the changes.

  1. I was really happy to see the change in gift cards! You could only get 2 $5 cards per day and I would have to keep track of how many I ordered and if I received them or not. One larger card is much better.

On a side note, if you have not already you may want to blog about Swagcodes. There are some websites that will automatically e-mail you these codes. I use brokestudentsupply.com

    • Thanks! I do use Swagcodes from time to time. I am also happy about the change at Swagbucks. They have been great to me over the years. I have never had an issue.
