The older I get, the more I try to avoid the shopping mall.
As you might imagine, you don’t pay off your $86,000 mortgage in 2 years by spending your weekends going on shopping sprees.
When I do have to shop, I prefer to do it online. You’re about to see why.
I was telling a friend of mine about the cash back sites I use to save money on my online purchases. She had no idea what I was talking about.
I thought it would be fun to run an experiment using my top 3 cash back sites.
On this day, I knew what I was shopping for. I wanted to buy 2 t-shirts at the retailer TopMan. They’re on sale: 2 for $16. Now, let’s see how I can save even more!
Next, I typed TopMan into the search bar on each of the sites. In just a few seconds, I was on my way to getting cash back on my purchase.
2016 UPDATE: Since writing this post in 2014, Big Crumbs has restructured, and I no longer use them. I primarily use TopCashBack.
TopCashBack – 7.5% cash back
Big Crumbs – 4.5% cash back
Ebates – 3.5% cash back
AND THE WINNER IS…
On this day, TopCashBack was true to its name.
Next, I clicked on the “GET CASHBACK AND VISIT RETAILER” button, which directed me to TopMan’s website.
I shopped normally and paid with my Barclaycard Arrival World MasterCard, which earns 2.2% cash back on purchases redeemed for travel.
A few weeks later, my 7.5% cash back will be available to be transferred to a bank account, PayPal or redeemed for Amazon.com credit.
Keep in mind, the other cash back websites work in a similar fashion.
While I only saved $1.20 on my purchase from TopMan, the savings can really add up over time.
If you’re not a member of these 3 sites, I recommend signing up and running your own comparison before you buy. Online shopping is so much more enjoyable when you’re earning cash back.
